How to Choose the Right Desiccant Air Dryer

A desiccant air dryer removes water vapor from compressed air to help prevent corrosion, freezing, product defects and equipment failures. The correct dryer should be selected based on airflow (SCFM), operating pressure, inlet air temperature and the level of dryness required for your application.

What Should You Consider?

  • Air Flow (SCFM): Select a dryer rated at or above your compressor's maximum airflow.
  • Operating Pressure: Higher operating pressure generally improves drying efficiency.
  • Inlet Air Temperature: Install after an aftercooler and receiver tank whenever possible. Cooler inlet air extends desiccant life.
  • Application: Paint spraying, instrumentation, plasma cutting, laser cutting and outdoor piping often require very dry air.
